When to Seek Medical Care After an Accident

Learn why symptoms can appear later and how to prepare for a useful medical appointment.

  1. Call 911 for severe pain, breathing problems, loss of consciousness or other emergency symptoms.
  2. Describe when the accident occurred and how your body moved during impact.
  3. Report all symptoms, including those that began after the collision.
  4. Bring medication, insurance and relevant medical-history information.
  5. Follow the provider’s instructions and ask when follow-up is needed.
